The long-running death game series Online: The Comic has officially concluded its serialization on the Manga Box digital platform, bowing out with its 255th chapter. Original creator Midori Amagaeru marked the milestone by sharing a commemorative illustration celebrating the finale alongside artist Tsukasa Kyoka.
A Decade of Digital Survival
Originally debuting in 2013 on DeNA's MangaBox service during the early wave of dedicated digital manga platforms, the series adapted Amagaeru's web novel into an unrelenting suspense thriller. The narrative follows an ordinary office worker caught in a harrowing technological trap:
Mai Yashiro was an average office worker until the day a video game console arrived in her mailbox. The game she is forced to play, Nightmare, is a dangerous game in which one risks both the lives of the ones they love and their own body. If you refuse to play, those dear to you die. If you lose battles in the game, parts of your body cease functioning.
Publisher Everystar released the 23rd compiled volume in February 2024, far surpassing earlier retailer listings that once projected the series to wrap around its 15th volume. While the manga adaptation has reached its finish line, the original novel line continues under Kadokawa, which published the 27th volume in May 2024.
