Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced on Friday that Pokémon Pokopia, their cozy-style life simulation crafting game within the franchise, has officially surpassed 5 million units sold worldwide in roughly four months since launch.
The milestone comes alongside major content rollouts. The game's paid Expansion Pass DLC introduced the underwater Bubbly Basin town on August 5 as Part 1 of the pass. Subsequent updates are scheduled, with accessories planned for late 2026 as Part 2, and another new town arriving in 2027 as Part 3. Players who purchase the DLC receive a bonus Dynamic Ditto print recipe and rare in-game Pokémetal. Concurrently, a major free update launched alongside Part 1, adding the ability to explore and build underwater in existing towns using a new 'Dive' mechanic, alongside a plethora of new Pokémon such as Manaphy, Popplio, Mudkip, Chinchou, Lanturn, Buizel, Corphish, Totodile, Dhelmise, Golisopod, Corsola, Frillish, Lumineon, and Sharpedo.
Developed by Koei Tecmo, Pokémon Pokopia launched for the Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5 utilizing a Game-Key Card release format—physical cartridges containing digital activation keys for the Nintendo eShop. The title also introduces unique variant creatures including Professor Tangrowth, Peakychu, Mosslax, and Smearguru, corresponding to Tangrowth, Pikachu, Snorlax, and Smeargle.
In related franchise news, the battle-focused title Pokémon Champions debuted for Switch on April 8 before expanding to iOS and Android on June 17, while the upcoming mainline entries Pokémon Winds/Waves are slated for a worldwide Switch 2 release in 2027.
