English publisher Titan Manga has officially scheduled its omnibus release for Eiji Hashimoto and Shinya Umemura's acclaimed historical action series Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem (Chiruran: Shinsengumi Chinkon-ka). Fans can expect the comprehensive 3-in-1 English edition to hit shelves on January 26, 2027, accompanied by a newly revealed cover design.
Historical Roots and Narrative Scope
The narrative explores the tumultuous early years of Hijikata Toshizou prior to his legendary tenure as Vice Commander of the ruthless Shinsengumi. Set against the backdrop of a fractured Japan on the brink of political collapse, the story traces Toshizou and his allies as they forge the notorious "Mibu Wolves" in the volatile streets of Kyoto to restore order by any means necessary.
Franchise Legacy and Adaptations
Written by Umemura and illustrated by Hashimoto, the manga originally debuted in the inaugural issue of Tokuma Shoten's Monthly Comic Zenon magazine back in 2010. After a celebrated run, the series entered its final arc with its 32nd volume in January 2022 before concluding its serialization in April 2023. Beyond print, the property has expanded across various media formats over the years, inspiring a theatrical stage play in April 2017, a live-action series broadcast on TBS and streaming via U-NEXT, as well as a comedic shorts anime adaptation titled Chiruran 1/2.
