The journey of Fumiya Tomozaki and the complex social dynamics of his high school life are finally approaching their narrative finish line. Author Yuuki Yaku officially announced via social media that the acclaimed light novel series Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun (Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki) will conclude with the release of its 12th volume on October 16.
A Decade-Long Journey
Launched in May 2016 under Shogakukan's Gagaga Bunko imprint with striking illustrations by Fly, the romantic comedy began after Yaku secured the Excellence Award at the 10th Shogakukan Light Novel Award. Over the years, the property grew into a major critical and commercial success, maintaining a coveted spot in the top 10 of the tankobon division in the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! guidebooks for five consecutive years from 2017 to 2021.
The franchise expanded across multiple media formats during its run. Eight Chida previously illustrated a main manga adaptation in Monthly Gangan Joker from 2017 to 2021, while a spin-off focused on fan-favorite character Minami Nanami, titled Nanami Minami wa Kagayakitai and illustrated by Bana Yoshida, launched in 2020. Animation studio Project No.9 adapted the source material into a 12-episode television anime in Winter 2021, followed by a 13-episode second season titled 2nd Stage in Winter 2024.
English readers have enjoyed robust localizations from Yen Press and Comikey, keeping international fans closely aligned with the Japanese releases as the story heads toward its definitive conclusion this autumn.
