TMS Anime has officially confirmed that the spinoff manga Baki Gaiden: Retsu Kaioh wa Isekai Tensei Shitemo Ikkō ni Kamawan (Baki Side Story - Retsu Kaioh Doesn't Mind At All If He Gets Reincarnated in Another World) is receiving a television anime adaptation. The announcement debuted alongside an official promotional video highlighting the transition of the formidable Chinese martial artist into a fantasy realm.
Spun off from Keisuke Itagaki’s long-running Baki martial arts franchise, the narrative focuses on Kenpo master Retsu Kaioh. Following his tragic battle against the legendary swordsman Musashi Miyamoto, Retsu awakens not in the afterlife, but in a classic high-fantasy setting. Refusing to rely on cheat skills or magical powers, Retsu relies purely on 4,000 years of Chinese martial arts heritage to confront dragons and fantasy monsters.
Illustrated by Eiji Mutsui with original story credits shared by Keisuke Itagaki and Sai Ihara, the manga launched in Akita Shoten's Monthly Shōnen Champion in 2020. The series has accumulated over 2 million copies in circulation across 16 compiled volumes to date, expanding the animated universe of Baki beyond Netflix hits like Baki Hanma and BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai.
