Japanese publisher Arc System Works has officially locked in a release date for its upcoming extraterrestrial simulation game, Donutal. The title is scheduled to launch on PC via Steam on September 3 (September 4 in Japan). Players who acquire the title during its launch window through November 30 will also receive free access to an official 13-track digital soundtrack.
Set in the year 2206, Donutal puts players in the shoes of a Chief Extraterrestrial Counselor tasked with vetting alien visitors applying for entry onto Earth. Much like the border-control simulation Papers, Please, players must inspect credentials, weigh prospective risks, and selectively approve extraterrestrial species that will benefit human civilization while turning away species that threaten global safety.
Along with the release window announcement, Arc System Works released an official character overview trailer showcasing the game's inspection mechanics and visual interface:
Notably, the game's Steam store page previously carried a disclosure indicating that in-game news feed illustrations utilized AI-generated imagery with post-retouching. That specific disclaimer has since been removed from the product page ahead of the September launch.
