To celebrate the 45th anniversary of its original release, the classic anime feature film Adieu Galaxy Express 999 (Sayonara Ginga Tetsudou 999: Andromeda Shuuchakueki) is returning to Japanese theaters in December 2026 with a fully remastered 4K presentation. The theatrical revival brings creator Leiji Matsumoto's definitive space opera back to the big screen, following the previous revival of the franchise's debut film.

Set against the backdrop of an endless cosmic conflict between humanity and the Mechanized Empire, the story follows young Tetsuro Hoshino as he boards the galactic super-express 999 once more. After receiving a mysterious message from his former travelling companion Maetel, Tetsuro journeys toward the Great Dark Nebula at the heart of the Andromeda Gravitational Zone. Pushing beyond the themes of immortality explored in the first film, director Rintaro crafts a melancholic coming-of-age story that examines the necessity of leaving youth behind to embrace adult independence.
