Kodansha has officially announced the continuation of its ambitious international publishing initiative, revealing plans for a second special issue of Young Magazine USA. The editorial department behind the iconic seinen anthology is actively seeking fresh Japanese manga creators interested in bringing their work directly to overseas readers.
Aspiring artists aiming for international serialization must submit a complete chapter storyboard alongside three sample manuscript pages by December 13. Editorial guidelines specify a thematic focus on societal outsiders—individuals overlooked by mainstream society who grapple with belonging. This open call follows the massive success of the inaugural U.S. special issue, which debuted last August with a staggering 1,044-page omnibus featuring exclusive works by industry heavyweights such as Kengo Hanazawa and Shūichi Shigeno.
Global Expansion and Digital Integration
The initial Young Magazine USA release made waves by offering physical distributions at Anime NYC and select Kinokuniya bookstores, alongside digital rollouts via platforms like GlobalComix and Omoi. Furthermore, fan engagement proved critical, with reader poll winners securing simultaneous English serialization on Kodansha’s K MANGA application, bridging the gap between North American audiences and Japanese creators.
