Masume Yoshimoto, celebrated for creating the rustic and charming Kuma Miko: Girl Meets Bear, is officially returning to serialization with a brand-new manga titled Kyō wa Kawabe de Sugoshitai (I Want to Spend the Day at the Riverbank). The upcoming series was announced in the 37th issue of Champion Buzz, the digital magazine supplement published by Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion.
The narrative centers on a protagonist named Sawakita, whose daily routine involves escaping the relentless noise and pressure of work by spending his lunch breaks quietly by the riverbank. However, this peaceful solitude takes an unexpected turn when a mysterious entity suddenly appears before him, setting the stage for an intriguing new story.
Looking Back at Kuma Miko
Yoshimoto's previous major work, Kuma Miko: Girl Meets Bear, ran in Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Flapper magazine from 2013 until its conclusion in December 2023. Spanning twenty compiled volumes, the series earned a dedicated international following and inspired a 2016 television anime adaptation.
Fans eager to see how Yoshimoto transitions from the mountain shrines of Kuma Miko to the tranquil waterside setting of Kyō wa Kawabe de Sugoshitai will not have to wait long. The first chapter is scheduled to launch in the next issue of Champion Buzz on November 5.
