In a notable industry shift, Sony Interactive Entertainment has canceled its publishing agreement for Hideo Kojima's action espionage title, Physint. Kojima revealed via social media that SIE issued notice of the cancellation in mid-June. Following three months of searching for a new strategic partner, Kojima Productions confirmed that Xbox Game Studios has officially acquired the publishing rights to the project.
The transition marks a deeper alliance between Kojima Productions and Microsoft, who are already collaborating on the upcoming horror project OD KNOCK. Originally framed as Kojima's return to the action espionage genre, Physint remains in early planning stages. The project features an international cast including Charlee Fraser (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Don Lee (Train to Busan), and Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One, Shin Kamen Rider).
Publisher Shift
The move comes as Kojima Productions continues expanding its intellectual property across screen media. Alongside the flagship gaming franchise—where Death Stranding 2: On the Beach continues its rollout—the studio's universe is expanding through an upcoming live-action feature directed by Michael Sarnoski, an animated feature titled DEATH STRANDING MOSQUITO directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto at ABC ANIMATION STUDIO, and the 2027 animated television series Death Stranding Isolations slated for Disney+.
