Fans of TYPE-MOON's narrative universe have an important date marked on their calendars. The highly anticipated Witch on the Holy Night (Mahoutsukai no Yoru) anime film adaptation has officially scheduled a special broadcast program for September 30, 2026. This presentation is set to unveil the final 90-second trailer and critical pre-release details, building immense anticipation for the studio's next major cinematic venture.
The announcement arrived directly from the KYOMAF Stage (Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair) panel, featuring appearances by voice actors Yusuke Kobayashi and Kana Hanazawa. According to the production timeline, the film will premiere domestically in Japan on November 20, 2026, before expanding internationally with a worldwide theatrical rollout in January 2027. North American audiences can expect Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment to bring the feature to theaters in the United States and Canada on January 29, 2027, complete with Japanese audio alongside English subtitles and an English dub.
Production Pedigree & Origins
Originally conceived as a visual novel by TYPE-MOON and penned by legendary scenario writer Kinoko Nasu—celebrated for his work on Fate/stay night and Tsukihime—Witch on the Holy Night debuted in Japan in April 2012 before receiving an official English localization in December 2022 and a Steam release in 2023. The original aesthetic features character designs by Hirokazu Koyama and an atmospheric musical score by Hideyuki Fukasawa.
Bringing this urban fantasy masterpiece to the big screen is animation powerhouse Ufotable, renowned for their stellar visual execution on Demon Slayer and Fate/Zero.
