WEBTOON Entertainment has announced a major strategic investment, acquiring a controlling 60% stake in RI Games Holdings Inc. The agreement establishes a dedicated framework to adapt several of the digital publisher's most lucrative, billion-view webtoon properties into fully realized video game experiences over the next four years.
Expanding IP Horizons
RI Games Holdings oversees two prominent development teams, GrayGames and Offbeat, which are now positioned at the forefront of this multimedia expansion. The initial slate targets foundational pillars of modern manhwa culture, including Overgeared with its staggering 1.3 billion global views, Doom Breaker boasting 590 million views, and the blockbuster hit Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, which has surpassed 3.05 billion reads worldwide.
The Overgeared Multimedi Initiative
The first title emerging from this partnership is a high-octane action MMORPG based on Overgeared. Developed by GrayGames and slated for global publishing via Nexon, the game is timed to arrive alongside the highly anticipated television anime adaptation produced by J.C. Staff under the direction of Ayako Kōno, with streaming handled internationally by Crunchyroll.
Meanwhile, long-term plans for Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint include a separate PC and console game adaptation handled by Offbeat and published by Com2uS, scheduled to launch in 2028, coinciding with its own distinct anime adaptation trajectory.
