The upcoming television anime adaptation of ippatu’s acclaimed survival manga Tsugumi Project (Toratsugumi -TSUGUMI PROJECT-) has officially unveiled its initial main voice cast. The grim post-apocalyptic spectacle, which originated in France before its domestic serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine, continues to ramp up its production ahead of its broadcast.
The narrative is set in a distant, radiation-blighted future where the quarantined ruins of what was once Japan have transformed into a monstrous wasteland inhabited by mutated aberrations. Condemned to death under false charges, the protagonist Leone is given a desperate ultimatum: venture into the lethal quarantine zone on a high-stakes secret operation where success means pardon and failure means execution. There, he crosses paths with a mysterious young girl and colossal mutant beasts.
Stepping into the role of the tragic former soldier and death row inmate Leone is voice actor Masaaki Mizunaka. He is joined by Misaki Watada as Tsugumi, the seemingly fragile yet terrifyingly powerful entity, and Haruki Ishitani as Dudu, a former underground fighting champion who accompanies Leone into the depths of the danger zone.
Alongside the cast announcement, production teams released the first in a series of voice comic promotional videos. This initial preview highlights the tense airborne journey where Leone and Dudu first encounter one another en route to the hazardous former Japanese archipelago, giving audiences an early taste of the gritty atmosphere awaiting them.
As production on the Tsugumi Project anime continues to unfold, fans eagerly await further details regarding additional cast members and broadcast windows. Kodansha’s complete seven-volume Japanese release of the original manga remains available for readers wishing to experience the atmospheric journey in print.
