KONAMI digital entertainment's legendary RPG franchise Suikoden is finally making its long-awaited transition to television. The production committee has released the official synopsis, key visual, and preview cuts for the grand premiere episode, titled 'Homeland', which kicks off the broadcast on October 3, 2026.
Originally debuting in 1995, the Suikoden series is celebrated for its intricate geopolitical conflicts, expansive lore, and a sprawling roster of over 108 distinct characters. Rather than adapting the first installment, this adaptation turns its narrative lens toward the beloved Suikoden II. Helmed by director Yuzo Sato and produced entirely in-house by KONAMI animation, the project features Toshiki Kumagai as Riou and Toshinobu Tsuchiya as Jowy.
The Tragedy of Two Childhood Friends
Riou and Jowy are young soldiers stationed within the Highland Kingdom's elite youth brigade, situated in the northeast of the Dunan region. Bound by shared stars and tent walls, the two boys share an unbreakable camaraderie, holding fast to the naive belief that dawn will bring an end to the bloodshed and restore peaceful days in their hometown of Kyaro.
However, fate proves unforgiving. During what was supposed to be their final patrol before returning home, the boys fall victim to a brutal enemy ambush in the mountain passes. Forced to leap into a churning waterfall with a promise of reunion, Riou awakens in the stronghold of the rival City-State Army, sparking profound doubts about the integrity of the Highland command.
Determined to uncover the truth and reunite with Jowy—who has likewise drifted into enemy territory—Riou makes a dangerous escape from captivity. The premiere episode promises a 60-minute extended special when it broadcasts across 32 television stations in Japan starting October 3, 2026, supported by an opening theme from amazarashi and ending music by Koji Nakamura.
