The theatrical cinematic extension of the magical girl detective phenomenon, Star Detective Precure! The Movie: The Mysterious Garden and the Secret of 2 People, has officially rewritten the box office history books for Toei Animation's iconic franchise. Following its September 18 debut in Japanese cinemas, the feature has accumulated 977,000 ticket sales and an estimated 1.24 billion yen (roughly US$7.8 million) within its first month of release.
Surpassing the 1.24 billion yen lifetime gross of 2024's Wonderful Precure! The Movie! Dokidoki♡Game no Sekai de Daibōken!, this milestone establishes the film as the highest-grossing standalone entry in the expansive history of the Precure banner. Opening at #3 in its debut weekend with 358,000 tickets sold for 446 million yen (approximately US$2.82 million), the movie maintained strong domestic momentum.
Helmed by director Hanako Ueda, known for work on You and Idol Precure♪ and Summer Time Rendering, the narrative follows the Detective Precures responding to the mysterious "X Mark Incident." Guided by a fairy named Rain to Karin's Garden—a sanctuary besieged by troublesome entities known as "Dame Dame"—the heroines uncover hidden secrets alongside returning figures from You and Idol Precure♪ and Wonderful Precure!.
The production features prominent guest voice talent, including Akari Kitō as the enigmatic 14-year-old Karin, Nobunaga Shimazaki as the fairy Alan, and Kōki Uchiyama as Rain. Yoshimi Narita handled the script composition, while character designs and chief animation direction were spearheaded by Emiko Miyamoto, preserving the vibrant aesthetic signature of the ongoing television broadcast currently streaming internationally via Crunchyroll.
