The acclaimed fantasy web novel and manhwa phenomenon SSS-Class Revival Hunter is officially making the leap to animation, with a confirmed global premiere slated for January 2027. Streaming giant Crunchyroll has picked up worldwide rights outside of select Asian territories, ensuring that international audiences can follow the dark tower-climbing journey on day one.
Alongside the premiere window, promotional materials dropped a major teaser trailer confirming the principal voice talent. Takeo Otsuka steps into the shoes of the desperate protagonist Gongja Kim, while veteran voice actor Satoshi Hino brings gravitas to the eccentric Sword Emperor. Behind the scenes, STUDIO fu handles the animation production under the direction of Hiroaki Sakurai, recognized for The Demon Girl Next Door. The creative lineup also benefits from scriptwriter Sayuri Oba and character designer Takahiro Yoshimatsu, whose prior work includes A Place Further Than the Universe.
From Web Novel to Global Screen
Originating as a digital web novel penned by Sinnoa in 2018, the franchise expanded significantly when a manhwa adaptation illustrated by Bill K and written by Neida launched on Kakaopage in late 2020. English readers have since embraced the property through digital platforms like Tapas and Wuxiaworld, alongside print releases handled by Ize Press.
Crunchyroll frames the high-stakes narrative around an unforgiving fantasy ecosystem:
A mysterious tower crawling with monsters has suddenly appeared, drawing Hunters willing to risk their lives for glory and riches. Gongja Kim, a weak F-rank Hunter, spends his days envying the Flame Emperor who reigns as the top Hunter. But his chance at greatness finally arrives when he joins forces with the Sword Emperor and gains a rare S-rank skill, with one catch: he must die to activate it.
