Manga artist Matsuki announced via X/Twitter that they have been hospitalized and require extended rest and recovery time. Consequently, the ongoing manga adaptation Overlord [Shin] Sekai-hen (Overlord [New] World Arc) has been placed on an indefinite hiatus.
Publication History
Matsuki launched Overlord [Shin] Sekai-hen in Kadokawa's Comp Ace magazine in April 2024. Publisher Kadokawa recently released the series' fourth compiled book volume on March 26. The narrative directly picks up from where creators Hugin Miyama and Satoshi Ōshio concluded their primary Overlord manga adaptation during its tenth volume storyline, chronicling Ainz Ooal Gown's consolidation of power and the establishment of the Sorcerer Kingdom following the bloody battle on the Katze Plains.
The original light novel series created by Kugane Maruyama with iconic illustrations by so-bin first debuted online in 2010 before moving to print under Kadokawa's Enterbrain imprint in 2012. The underlying franchise continues to be a cornerstone of modern dark fantasy isekai, having spawned four full anime television seasons by studio Madhouse and the recent feature film Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom, which premiered globally throughout late 2024.
