Distributed by specialist anime company Sugoi Co, the seminal historical action film will screen in cinemas across Australia and New Zealand starting October 8th, 2026. Fans will get the rare opportunity to experience the iconic feature in a pristine, digitally restored 4K presentation derived directly from the original 35mm camera negative.
This stunning restoration project, which originally premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, was produced by Sentai and meticulously overseen by director Yoshiaki Kawajiri himself to preserve the raw, gritty aesthetic that defined dark fantasy anime throughout the 1990s. Tickets for the upcoming theatrical run are scheduled to go on sale starting September 10th, with screenings presented in the original Japanese audio with English subtitles.
