The ongoing anime adaptation of Otsuji's wholesome twist on classic Cinderella tropes, My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked (Ibitte Konai Gibo to Gishi), is expanding its roster as the story enters the student council arc. NBCUniversal announced that voice actors Hiroki Nanami and Nao Tōyama are joining the cast as student council president Sadame Mikuriya and vice-president Hachi Ura, respectively. Both characters are scheduled to debut in the series' eighth episode on August 26.
Helmed by director Keisuke Inoue (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!) at studio NEWON, the series subverts traditional fairytale cruelty by surrounding protagonist Miya Nakamura with overwhelmingly affectionate step-relatives. The production features series scripts supervised by Nanami Hoshino and character designs by veteran animator Mutsumi Sasaki (Laid-Back Camp). Having premiered on July 8, the anime continues its broadcast on Tokyo MX, MBS, and regional networks, alongside international streaming availability via REMOW's "It's Anime" YouTube channel.
Otsuji's original manga launched on Ichijinsha's digital platform Comic POOL in November 2020 and quickly gathered a dedicated reader base for its heartwarming subversion of domestic melodrama. With Seven Seas Entertainment handling English publication, the narrative continues to deliver comedic, heartwarming subversions of traditional villainess tropes.
