The landscape of American superheroes in Japanese publishing is undergoing a significant transformation. During their House of Ideas panel at New York Comic Con, Marvel Comics and Kadokawa executives pulled back the curtain on a slate of five new manga adaptations, establishing a fresh creative home for iconic heroes following the conclusion of their previous partnerships.
Led by Marvel's executive editor of Asia originals C.B. Cebulski, Kadokawa chief editor Kenta Matsui, and comics editor Naofumi Mashino, the panel detailed the series that officially debuted on Kadocomi. The ambitious lineup reimagines classic Marvel mythos through distinct manga aesthetics and storytelling styles.
The initial wave launches with TERU's Iron Man: I Am Iron Man The Manga, chronicling Tony Stark's fateful trip to Afghanistan, followed by tokitokoro's Spider-Man: Shibuya Cross Line, which pits a teenage Haruto Hachidori against street-level Tokyo crime alongside Daredevil. Rounding out the roster are Hōsuke Momoi's comedic take Deadpool: Millionaire With a Mouth The Manga, Ryūsei Yamada's Spider-Gwen: Her Big Debut The Manga, and Peperon's dark thriller Venom: Lethal Protector The Manga.
This major editorial shift arrives on the heels of the conclusion of Marvel's previous Japanese publishing ventures, including the wind-down of contracts with Shueisha and Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions earlier this year. With Kadocomi now serving as the dedicated Japanese digital storefront for these adaptations, fans can access the opening chapters directly through official channels as Marvel charts a brand-new course for its iconic stable in the Japanese market.
