Shueisha's global digital manga reading platform, MANGA Plus, has expanded its ever-growing catalog with a fresh wave of additions published between late August and early September. Ranging from 17th-century imperial court intrigue to modern-day supernatural romantic comedies, these new launches give international readers immediate access to fresh serialized storytelling straight from Japan.
Headlining the batch is KAKAKAKA by Mukade Makino. Set in 17th-century Ming China, the narrative centers on two undocumented brothers struggling to survive at the margins of society. The elder brother holds fierce ambitions to rise through the social hierarchy by passing the grueling imperial exams. When he agrees to take the tests disguised as a powerful noble's son, he steps onto a dangerous path where a simple writing brush becomes a weapon capable of rewriting the fate of an empire.
Also joining the platform is The Ura Files, a high-school rom-com created by Shun Numa and Yūshin Kuroki. The story follows Momotaro Kibitsu, an ordinary student who leads a double life as a secret national security agent. His assignment: surveil Ura, a stunning classmate who happens to be a descendant of mythological *oni*. Numa and Kuroki, known respectively for their previous works Super Psychic Policeman Chojo and Teenage Renaissance! David, officially launched the series in Weekly Shonen Jump and on MANGA Plus.
Rounding out the update are Noisering—a tense deep-sea thriller by Kanya Aki and Tsubasa following a blind sonarman who makes a chilling discovery after the Great Shizuoka Earthquake—and Barako's lighthearted slice-of-life comedy Morino-san Just Won't Leave Me Be.
