Publisher Shogakukan has revealed through its Yawaraka Spirits manga platform that artist Yuna Anisaki is launching a direct manga adaptation of author Kazuki Karasawa's historical romance novel, Kōkyū Gohi no Kuroshiro na Oshigoto (The Black and White Duties of the Inner Palace's Lady of Go). The serialization officially begins on September 18.
A Strategy of Fates and Intrigues
Set within the imperial land of Ginran, the narrative follows Kairin, a young woman ostracized and confined by her own family due to her distinctive black-and-white hair. To endure isolation, she masters the game of go in solitude. Following a brief escape from her domestic prison, Kairin encounters Crown Prince Seiken over the game board, forging an unbreakable bond as player and mentor before political turmoil forcibly separates them. A decade later, Kairin enters the inner palace as an attendant, where an encounter over a complex go problem risks exposing her hidden past to the newly crowned emperor.
The original story by Karasawa debuted earlier this year on Kadokawa's Kakuyomu platform before receiving a standalone print volume featuring cover artwork by Kasumi Nagi. Anisaki previously drew My Sadistic Boyfriend (S Kareshi Jyou-Jyou), bringing seasoned experience in expressive romance character work to this court intrigue tale.
