Aniplex's upcoming original Bakumatsu period anime, Kaze wo Tsugu Mono (The Wind Inheritors), has officially set its television debut for January 2027. The television broadcast will be preceded by an advance theatrical screening titled Kaze wo Tsugu Mono -Hajimari- on November 13, 2026. Accompanying this release schedule is an ambitious musical collaboration between indie-rock trio Hitsujibungaku and veteran rock outfit Quruli, who are uniting to compose and perform both theme songs as well as the project's original soundtrack.
The opening theme, titled "Kaze wo Tsugu Mono," is credited under the joint moniker Quruli + Hitsujibungaku, while the ending theme and theatrical preview song "Namida no Kawa" is performed by Hitsujibungaku + Quruli. Both songs feature vocals by Hitsujibungaku lead singer Moeka Shiotsuka, releasing under Sony Music Labels' F.C.L.S. imprint. In addition, Quruli frontman Shigeru Kishida is scoring his very first television anime soundtrack, producing over 50 original instrumental tracks that incorporate traditional Gion festival percussion, Edo-period European classical arrangements, early-morning jazz, and contemporary electronic textures.
Bakumatsu Drama
Directed by Tomohiro Kawamura with scripts written by playwright Yutaka Narui, Kaze wo Tsugu Mono delivers a grounded historical narrative set during the turbulent final years of the Tokugawa shogunate. The plot follows Jinsuke Tachikawa, an amnesiac warrior who integrates into the Mibu Roshigumi and navigates the political conflicts of mid-19th century Japan. Animation production blends Live2D digital performance rigging with traditional hand-drawn cel animation techniques.
