Shogakukan's Cheese! magazine has officially announced that acclaimed creator Kotomi Aoki is returning to her celebrated romance manga Kanojo wa Uso o Ai Shisugiteru (She Loves Lies Too Much) for its 10-year anniversary celebration. The commemorative project is scheduled to launch in the magazine's next issue, bringing a substantial 45-page new work for readers.
While editorial notices have kept details under wraps regarding whether the release constitutes a serialized continuation or a special standalone chapter, the anticipation within the shojo community remains exceptionally high. Aoki originally serialized the title in Cheese! from 2009 until February 2017, amassing 22 compiled volumes that captivated audiences with its poignant blend of romance and the high-stakes contemporary music industry.
A Modern Classic of Musical Romance
The narrative famously follows Aki Ogasawara, a brilliant young sound creator and secretive multi-millionaire composer working behind the scenes for the hit band Crude Play. Seeking genuine connection away from the corporate machinery of the industry, Aki enters into a relationship with Riko Koeda, an ordinary high school girl completely unaware that she is dating the very mastermind behind her favorite music. The manga previously inspired a successful Japanese live-action cinematic adaptation in 2013, a companion prologue drama series, and a Korean television adaptation.
Aoki's distinctive narrative style and emotional depth have consistently anchored Cheese! magazine's lineup over the decades, with celebrated works like Boku wa Imōto ni Koi o Suru and Niji, Amaete yo. defining generations of emotional shojo storytelling. Readers can look forward to the 45-page anniversary feature when it debuts on October 23.
