Bandai Namco Filmworks has officially launched a website to announce a television anime adaptation of Kamisama Gakkou no Ochikobore (The Failure at God School), the popular shoujo manga written by Natsu Hyuuga and illustrated by Modomu Akagawara. Alongside the confirmation, the studio revealed an official teaser visual to mark the beginning of the production cycle.
Originally launched in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine in August 2021, the manga has steadily built a massive readership, boasting over 1.7 million copies in circulation across its collected volumes, with the 15th volume slated for release in September. The franchise also expanded through a light novel adaptation launched under Kodansha's Seikaisha Fictions imprint, while Yen Press handles the English language publication.
Supernatural Bureaucracy and Modern Deities
The narrative blends bureaucratic modern systems with traditional folklore, following protagonist Nagi as she navigates a world where supernatural abilities require government certification. When the passing of her grandmother leaves her family shrine without a divine presence, Nagi embarks on a desperate quest to secure a deity, leading her to unexpected places.
As production gets underway at Bandai Namco Filmworks, additional details regarding the main cast, staff members, and premiere window are expected to be announced via the official website and official X account (@KamisamaSCH_a).
