Digital reading platform Kakao Piccoma has launched the submission phase for a special edition of its web novel initiative: the 4th Piccoma Novels Grand Prize Extra Edition: SMARTOON Original Novel Contest. Running from September 10, 2026 through November 4, 2026, the competition focuses on acquiring web novel manuscripts specifically tailored for conversion into vertical scrolling comic formats known as SMARTOON.

Guaranteed Serialization

Unlike conventional publishing competitions that place strict quotas on winning entries, Piccoma has established an open selection model. Every entry that passes the reader-evaluation threshold is promised both novel serialization on the platform and a full digital webtoon adaptation. Authors who previously submitted revised manuscripts to past Piccoma contests are also invited to re-enter, provided their work fits this edition's specific prompt guidelines.

Piccoma SMARTOON Contest Overview

Target Themes

The selection panel has narrowed the contest criteria to three distinct story archetypes based on platform reader engagement data:

  • Male-Targeted Fantasy: Western fantasy featuring an overpowered protagonist driven by clear personal motives like revenge or rising through harsh societal structures.
  • Female-Targeted Romance Fantasy (Marriage): Western romance stories where marriage is the starting point rather than the conclusion, focusing on heroines who overcome isolation through skill and resolve.
  • Female-Targeted Romance Fantasy (Villainess): High-stakes aristocratic intrigue centered on clever heroines utilizing future knowledge or unique talents to turn the tables on rivals.

Every participant will receive an official reader report analyzing user engagement feedback, providing creator insights regardless of whether their manuscript advances to serialization. Detailed guidelines and submission parameters are accessible via the official Piccoma Portal and their editorial announcements on Note.
