A high-profile joint venture between tokusatsu giant Tsuburaya Productions and anime powerhouse Toei Animation is taking tangible form. The upcoming CG animated feature Kaiju Decode: The Ring of Aidara has formally scheduled its premiere for 2027, accompanied by a fresh teaser trailer and a striking third key visual showcasing its dual protagonists.
Initially conceived at Tsuburaya Convention 2019, the Kaiju Decode initiative previously experimented with short-form animation and virtual reality experiences. The feature film expands the universe dramatically, anchoring its sci-fi premise in a reimagined Sakai City within Osaka Prefecture. Production is managed by ARECT alongside Toei Animation, helmed by director S/N.
Worlds Divided
A youth named Maru lives in the peaceful City, a society freed from the restrictions of the body, mind, space, and time. In contrast, a girl named Coco, a member of the Aidara Tribe, resides in the Zone, a treacherous area also inhabited by incredible beasts. The story revolves around two opposing characters seeking a path into a shared future.
The technical talent assembled across both studios highlights a focus on creature and character synergy:
- Scriptwriter: Katsuie Shibata
- Kaiju Designer: Masayuki Goto (SSSS.GRIDMAN)
- Character Designers: Masatsugu Saito (Coco) and Sei Nakashima (Maru)
- Cast: Aya Yamane as Maru, Karin Takahashi as Coco
The collaboration between tokusatsu titan Tsuburaya and Toei Animation represents an ambitious bridge between traditional monster iconography and sleek digital animation, setting high expectations ahead of its 2027 theatrical run.
