Light novel illustrator Kanna Wakatsuki has announced legal action against publisher WiZH, alleging copyright infringement regarding the digital complete edition of the classic fantasy series Inukami!. According to statements shared by the artist, the publisher issued a compiled digital volume featuring a cover illustration strikingly similar to original character designs without proper consultation, while simultaneously stripping Wakatsuki of their original creator credits.
The core dispute centers on character assets and visual motifs held by the illustrator for over two decades. Wakatsuki pointed to matching stylistic elements, such as signature green hair and pendant accessories, featured on the disputed digital covers. Legal representatives attempted to reach a settlement, but the publisher has reportedly refused to acknowledge the infringement claims. Consequently, WiZH previously halted distribution of the first digital volume and postponed subsequent releases.

Original author Mamisu Arizawa has responded to the controversy by publishing new chapters of the franchise for free on web novel platforms as a goodwill gesture to longtime readers. The original Inukami! light novel series ran for 14 volumes between 2003 and 2007, inspiring a manga adaptation by Mari Matsuzawa and a popular 26-episode television anime adaptation in 2006 alongside an animated film sequel.
