During the Aniplex One Focus livestream, producer Aniplex showcased a brand-new promotional video for the upcoming original historical television anime Inherit the Winds (Kaze wo Tsugumono). The spotlight focuses heavily on five members of the iconic Shinsengumi detachment.
The newly previewed cast members bringing the Bakumatsu-era warriors to life include:
- Takeo Ōtsuka as Sannan Keisuke
- Simba Tsuchiya as Harada Sanosuke
- Ryōhei Kimura as Nagakura Shinpachi
- Ayumu Murase as Tōdō Heisuke
- Yasuyuki Kase as Serizawa Kamo
Bakumatsu Kyoto and Theatrical Previews
Before its television broadcast, Inherit the Winds will debut in Japanese theaters with a limited two-week advanced screening starting November 13, focusing on protagonist Tachikawa Jinsuke. The full television broadcast is scheduled to premiere in January 2027 on the "Agaru Anime" block across CBC, TBS, and 26 affiliated stations.
Set during the turbulent Bakumatsu era in Kyoto, the narrative follows an amnesiac soldier rescued by master swordsman Okita Sōji. Given the name "Tachikawa Jinsuke," the warrior begins a turbulent second chapter embedded within the Mibu wolves. The wider ensemble features Daisuke Sakuma (Snow Man) as Tachikawa Jinsuke, Yūki Kaji as Okita Sōji, Aoi Yūki as Koganei Hyōgo, Kōki Uchiyama as Hijikata Toshizō, Yūichi Nakamura as Kondō Isami, and Nichika Ōmori as Kurosuke.
The production is directed by Tomohiro Kawamura at Live2D Creative Studio and Drive Inc. The original story and scripts are penned by acclaimed playwright Yutaka Narui (founder of theater troupe Caramel Box) in cooperation with Azuki Mashiba. Character designs are handled by Fumi Ebina, with an original score composed by Shigeru Kishida.
