Independent publisher Glacier Bay Books has announced a comprehensive slate of new manga licenses and upcoming crowdfunding campaigns, continuing its mission to bring distinctive, poetic, and avant-garde translated works to English-speaking readers. The upcoming catalog spans whimsical historical folklore, haunting psychological sci-fi, and horror anthologies.
New License Highlights
Among the standout acquisitions is Serata Naminami's Oedo-chan of Moguraya, a fable-like period piece set in an atmospheric Edo period. The story follows Oedo-chan—a stray cat working hard alongside Captain, a mole—as they navigate a harsh yet wondrous world, touching upon the protagonist's emotional past alongside the special SFB bonus story. Glacier Bay Books is also expanding its literary range with Aoi Mukoubi's A Vase of Life, an early sci-fi collection exploring delicate, fragmented human threads from the author of TO THE SEA, and Akino Kogomi's debut collection Faraway Blue.
Additional major titles slated for release include Aoi Ikebe's philosophical All I Can Do, Ikuko Hatoyama's The Dovecote Express—following the surreal railway journey of a boy amid wartime carrier pigeon lore—and Ding Pao-Yen's Future Unfolding. Pre-orders for these volumes, alongside Codomopaper's Juji and Aichi and Courtney Loberg's We Don't Go Through the Angelgrass, are set to launch next week via Kickstarter.
Carrying Forward the Star Fruit Books Legacy
Beyond its original acquisitions, Glacier Bay Books is formally pushing forward with the integration and reproduction of the Star Fruit Books catalog following the tragic passing of founder Matt Haasch in September 2025. Essential titles returning to print under this collaborative continuity include works by horror master Hideshi Hino (such as Panorama of Hell and Occult Detective Club / Graveyard of the Death Dolls), Yōichi Abe's PRISM, Noroi Michiru's supernatural chillers, and Minami Q-ta's poignant Not All Girls Are Stupid.
