NBCUniversal Japan revealed the fourth promotional video on Friday for the second season of the anime adaptation based on Shigeru Sagazaki's 'From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman' (Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru) light novel series. The company also announced two additional cast members joining the line-up:
- Kenshō Ono as Warren Flumvelk
- Sumire Uesaka as Shueste Flumvelk
The new season premiered within the "IMAnimation W" programming block on TV Asahi and affiliated channels on July 8. The series is also streaming exclusively worldwide on Amazon Prime Video starting July 9.
Previously announced new cast additions include Takashi Kondō, Hiromu Mineta, Mami Uchida, and Hiroshi Yanaka. Returning staff members include director Akio Kazumi at studios Passione and Hayabusa Film, series script supervisor Kunihiko Okada, character designer and chief animation director Satsuki Hayasaka, and music composer Yasuharu Takanashi. Rock band Unicorn performs the opening theme song "Kurenai no Ha" (Crimson Leaf), while BLUE ENCOUNT performs the ending theme "Mikansei" (Unfinished).
The story follows Beryl Gardinant, an aging sword instructor in a rural village who unexpectedly gets appointed as a special instructor for the knights of the Liberion Order after a former pupil visits him. The light novels are published by Square Enix with illustrations by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima, and licensed in English by J-Novel Club.
