Publisher Edia announced plans to re-release Nihon Falcom's seminal role-playing titles Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes and Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes II. While specific platform details and launch windows remain under wraps, the company confirmed that these new editions will specifically adapt the historic PC-98 versions, celebrated for introducing voice acting to select narrative sequences.
The Roots of a Legend
Originally launching on PC-88 in 1989 and 1992 respectively, these foundational titles launched Nihon Falcom's sprawling The Legend of Heroes franchise as an offshoot of their earlier Dragon Slayer series. The first game's cultural footprint even stretched into animation, inspiring a two-episode original video anime project in 1992 that later reached North American audiences on VHS via Urban Vision.
Following these initial outings, the franchise evolved significantly through the Gagharv Trilogy before giving birth to the acclaimed Trails subseries starting with 2004's The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. With the franchise continuing to expand through modern entries and ambitious remakes, this upcoming re-release offers a rare opportunity for contemporary players to experience the roots of one of gaming's most enduring RPG lineages.
