Deadline reported on Thursday that Disney+ and 20th Century TV have officially canceled their planned live-action Power Rangers series, halting the project permanently before moving past the development stage.
According to sources cited by Deadline, the decision to scrap the series was strictly budget-related rather than stemming from creative differences. The production was set to be spearheaded by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the showrunners behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians, with Hasbro also attached as a producer.
The broader franchise has seen various entries in recent years, including Power Rangers Dino Fury, which premiered on Nickelodeon in 2021, and its follow-up seasons on Netflix, culminating in Power Rangers Cosmic Fury in September 2023. Additionally, Netflix debuted the 30th-anniversary special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always in April 2023, while Digital Eclipse and Hasbro released the retro-style game Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind across multiple platforms in December 2024.
