Streaming platform Crunchyroll is intensifying its corporate strategy against unauthorized media distribution, recruiting a Vice President of Content Protection & Anti-Piracy to lead its global operations. According to public job listings, the executive role will be tasked with establishing long-term technological roadmaps, operational models, and strategic industry alliances to protect the company's extensive licensed catalog.
The role places strong emphasis on direct integration with major platform rights systems, including YouTube Content ID, Meta Rights Manager, and Google's Trusted Copyright Removal Program (TCRP). Beyond traditional takedown mechanisms, the prospective department head will oversee automated, AI-enabled enforcement workflows and coordinate directly with hosting providers, domain registrars, content delivery networks (CDNs), and payment processors.
Global Operations and Legislative Push
This internal restructuring coincides with coordinated international enforcement actions by Japanese rights holders. The Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IP House, following collaborative efforts in Brazil under Operation Animes that resulted in the closure of multiple unlicensed platforms. Concurrently, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) launched a comprehensive five-year initiative aiming to increase overseas sales of domestic media to 20 trillion yen by 2033, citing diplomatic missions and anti-piracy enforcement as core pillars of its strategy.
