Tokyo-based Link-U Group has entered into a strategic capital tie-up with Crunchyroll’s Japanese subsidiary, Crunchyroll K.K., alongside an expanded business partnership with Crunchyroll, LLC. Announced on September 14, 2026, the agreement aims to accelerate the international growth of Crunchyroll Manga and maximize the global value of Japanese manga and anime intellectual property.
The two entities initially established their collaboration through a joint development agreement in September 2025, which paved the way for the October 2025 debut of Crunchyroll Manga across the United States and Canada. Supported by strong backing from major Japanese publishing houses, the platform's title catalog has more than doubled since launch, accompanied by consistent subscriber growth.
Global Strategic Goals
Under the terms of the new capital alliance, Crunchyroll K.K. will participate in a third-party share allotment issued by Link-U. The partnership focuses on three core pillars:
- Expanding the overseas manga platform into new international territories with robust localization infrastructure.
- Reinforcing backend technical operations, development, and compliance capabilities for digital manga services.
- Leveraging data analytics and market insights to identify promising manga IP and streamline international distribution.
Bringing together Link-U’s technical expertise and publisher relationships with our global reach creates an opportunity to bring great stories to more fans worldwide.
Rahul Purini, Crunchyroll President
Link-U Group CEO Yuki Matsubara emphasized that the partnership unites publishers, Crunchyroll’s established global brand, and Link-U's platform architecture to scale both available titles and distribution regions.
This structural alignment arrives as the Japanese government targets ¥20 trillion in overseas content exports by 2033, positioning international IP expansion as a vital growth driver for the broader entertainment sector.
