Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato's smash-hit original feature film Chou Kaguya-hime is preparing for a triumphant return to Japanese cinemas starting September 18, 2026. Following an impressive theatrical run that began earlier this year after its Netflix premiere—surpassing 1.2 million admissions and grossing over 2.5 billion yen—the virtual-space musical phenomenon is treating fans to a special revival screening featuring unique formats and collectible bonuses.
Directed by Shingo Yamashita with scripts penned by Saeri Natsuo and Yamashita himself, the film blends virtual idol culture, music live performances, and modern social networking trends within the digital expanse known as Tsukuyomi. The upcoming revival will span standard formats as well as immersive presentation styles including MX4D, 4DX, ScreenX, and Ultra 4DX, each offering tailored post-credit music video sequences.
Theatrical Perks and Exclusive Goods
Audiences attending the revival screenings will receive exclusive physical rewards depending on their chosen viewing format. Standard, MX4D, and Dolby Atmos screenings will hand out a special illustration board featuring the 'Fanatic Omatsuri Girl' unit artwork. Meanwhile, 4DX attendees receive a themed paper clip, and ScreenX or Ultra 4DX ticket holders will be treated to a gold-foiled sticker set utilizing imagery from the 'ray Chou Kaguya-hime Version' music video.
In addition to ticket bonuses, a comprehensive official history book titled Chou Kaguya-hime Official History Book will debut in theaters and via Shochiku's online store. The publication gathers initial conceptual proposals, storyboards, and music video archives documenting the production journey behind the cyber-folktale phenomenon.
