During the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 stream, ArtPlay and 505 Games pulled back the curtain on Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement with an extensive new gameplay trailer. The footage showcases striking environments, challenging foes, fresh traversal abilities, and new characters poised to shape the gothic metroidvania universe.
Originally slated for release this year, the title was recently pushed to 2027. Veteran game developer and ArtPlay co-founder Koji Igarashi confirmed that the project has officially entered its final stages of development. The team continues moving forward following the tragic passing of creative director SHUTARO (Shutaro Iida) earlier in the year, with staff dedicated to delivering an experience that honors his creative legacy.
A Prequel to Gothic Chaos
Set years prior to the events of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the narrative follows Leo alongside the Black Wolves. Under the command of Lord Theodore, these warriors prepare to storm the cursed Ethereal Castle to confront the Demon Lord Elias.

ArtPlay and 505 Games
The franchise has maintained a dedicated following since the 2019 launch of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and its companion retro-styled titles Curse of the Moon and Curse of the Moon 2. The Scarlet Engagement is planned for release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
