Publisher Tokyopop has expanded its upcoming publishing catalog with a return to classic sci-fi slice-of-life and a heavy expansion into contemporary romance. Headlining the latest lineup is a fresh print run for the premiere volume of Kozue Amano’s beloved series Aria: The Masterpiece, alongside multiple acquisition titles joining the publisher’s dedicated LoveLove romance imprint.
Classic Sci-Fi Revival
The return of Aria: The Masterpiece Volume 1 brings Amano’s serene Martian landscape back to physical shelves in a deluxe format featuring full-color spreads. Set on the terraformed world of Aqua (formerly Mars), the story follows trainee gondolier Akari Mizunashi as she navigates the Venice-inspired canals of Neo-Venezia while pursuing her dream of becoming a master guide.
On the planet Aqua, a world once known as Mars, Akari Mizunashi has just made her home in the town of Neo-Venezia, a futuristic imitation of the ancient city of Venice. In pursuit of her dream to become an Undine — a gondolier who leads high-end tours around the city — Akari joins as a trainee with the Aria Company, one of the three most prestigious water-guide companies in Neo-Venezia.
New Romance Acquisitions
Alongside the classic reprint, Tokyopop highlighted several brand-new acquisitions spanning romance and Boys' Love narratives:
- A Fangirl’s Guide to Learning How to Date 3D Men by Ari Asato: A comedy focusing on Kaoruko, a 24-year-old otome game enthusiast who agrees to an arranged marriage when her prospective groom turns out to be the spitting image of her favorite 2D character.
- How to Fall In Love with You Again by Kazuma Akutagawa: A amnesia-driven romance where 18-year-old Shoma wakes up to discover he has lost seven years of memories—and that his childhood crush is now his grown-up boyfriend.
