Production Pedigree and Staff
Animation production is anchored at studio Synergy SP, with Yasuaki Fujii directing the series following episode direction work on Teasing Master Takagi-san and Too Cute Crisis. Series composition is guided by Keiichirō Ōchi, known for his work on The Quintessential Quintuplets and Summer Pockets. Character designs are spearheaded by Majiro (Macross Delta), while the musical score is orchestrated by Arisa Okehazama (The Apothecary Diaries, Jujutsu Kaisen) under King Records.
Originally launched by Ryon on the GANMA! web service in June 2021, the source manga earned a prestigious "Next Impact Comic" award at the second Rakuten Kobo E-book Awards in 2024. English-language publication rights are currently managed by Seven Seas Entertainment, which summarizes the premise:
It's the start of a new semester, and high school junior Kuroki finds himself seated beside the girl everyone whispers about: Mai Chihara. With her gothic fashion, jet-black hair, and intense stare, Chihara is said to be a “landmine” girl or jirai-kei, the hyper-feminine, dark aesthetic often associated with yandere tendencies and unstable personalities. But when Kuroki accidentally draws Chihara's attention, he discovers she isn't nearly as unstable as people claim. Beneath the intimidating aura is a surprisingly sweet girl… if a little weird.
