French entertainment enterprise Ankama has pulled back the curtain on its ambitious original fantasy television series, Aoki Denshō Welsh & Shedar (The Azure Legend: Welsh & Shedar). Ahead of its scheduled broadcast, the official production channels released a sweeping main promotional video alongside a wave of major voice cast additions, staff credentials, and vocal artist announcements.
Cast and Creative Team
The newly unveiled voice cast brings together an incredible roster of veteran talent. Yūko Kaida steps into the role of Zabel, the powerful queen of Bonta. Alongside her, Makoto Furukawa portrays Joris—Welsh’s trusted mentor and a legendary hero responsible for resolving a past crisis that dictated the nation's destiny. Risa Kayama joins as Bechamel, Welsh’s childhood friend, with additional performances featuring Wataru Takagi as Khan Karkass and Show Hayami as Azalar. They join previously confirmed leads Rikuya Yasuda as the country boy Welsh and Yūki Kaji as the royal prince Shedar.
Production is underway at Studio Massket, with Naoki Horiuchi taking the director's chair. Character designs are spearheaded by Saori Nakashiki, who shares chief animation direction duties alongside Yoshiaki Tsubata and Yuki Ikeda. The series construction for the Japanese adaptation is guided by Kenichi Yamashita, while Tot is credited with the original work, scripts, and initial narrative framework. Sound direction is managed by Jun Watanabe under TO Books, with an atmospheric score composed by Pierre-Jean Beaudoin and Jose Pavli.
Music and Premiere Details
The newly released trailer previews the opening theme song, "Bokura no Mirai e" (To Our Future), performed by veteran artists Hironobu Kageyama and Masami Okui. Kageyama returns to handle the ending theme, titled "Omelette," and collaborates with KUKO on the insert track "I'm in you."
The narrative explores an epic convergence of distinct paths, following Welsh, a humble country boy, and Shedar, a prince burdened with the crown, as their fates lock together in a desperate bid to dismantle a tyrant's global conquest.
Aoki Denshō Welsh & Shedar is set to premiere on Tokyo MX on October 2 at 9:25 p.m. JST.
