Publisher Kadokawa unveiled a new teaser video and visual for the upcoming second season of Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian during the Kyoto International Manga and Anime Fair (KyoMAF). The update offers fans a fresh glimpse into the romantic comedy's next chapter alongside key details regarding production changes at studio Doga Kobo.
Following a prior delay that pushed the broadcast window to 2027 to ensure higher production quality, the second season marks notable directorial shifts within the creative team. Hiroshi Haraguchi, who previously directed the fourth episode of season one, steps into the series director chair, replacing Ryota Itoh. Scriptwriting duties have also shifted to Yuka Yamada, while assistant director Seong Min Kim joins the leadership team. Character designer Yūhei Murota returns to maintain the show's vibrant aesthetic.
Adapting Volume 4 and Franchise Milestone
The upcoming season will pick up the story directly from the fourth volume of the light novel series written by Sunsunsun and illustrated by Momoco. Ahead of the new broadcast, Kadokawa confirmed that the light novel franchise has crossed 5.5 million copies in circulation worldwide, combining print and digital editions.
For viewers unfamiliar with the premise, official publisher Yen Press describes the narrative core as follows:
Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou is Seiren Private Academy's “solitary princess.” She's a half-Russian beauty with silver hair, at the top of her class, student council accountant, and…completely unapproachable. For some reason, she's also taken on the responsibility of reprimanding the slacker who sits next to her in class. Masachika Kuze is constantly frustrating her by falling asleep, forgetting his textbooks, and just being an overall unexemplary student. Or at least, that's how it looks from the outside. She may put on a tough act, but she doesn't mind Masachika as much as others would think. She even lets him call her by her nickname, Alya. Anyone hearing the comments she mutters in Russian under her breath might know how she really feels, but since none of her classmates understand the language, she's free to say whatever she likes! Except…there is one person who knows what she's saying. Masachika eavesdrops on her embarrassing revelations, pretending to be clueless, all the while wondering what her flirtatious comments actually mean!
With its first 12-episode run originally broadcasting in Summer 2024, the prolonged lead time into 2027 reflects Doga Kobo's effort to scale up narrative momentum as the student council dynamic escalates in future arcs.
