October 14th marks Railway Day in Japan, commemorating the opening of the country's first railway between Shinbashi and Yokohama in 1872. Across anime, manga, and gaming, rail transport frequently serves as a mechanical backdrop, a narrative catalyst, or even forms the literal identity of the characters themselves.
To celebrate the occasion, Japanese pop culture outlet Anime! Anime! conducted a reader poll asking fans to crown their favorite railway-associated characters. The survey, which ran from October 1 to October 8, captured a diverse demographic, highlighting timeless classics alongside modern action blockbusters.
