The official website for the anime adaptation of Nigouu's award-winning light novel series The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru.) has released the synopsis and a series of preview images for the upcoming premiere of its much-anticipated second season.
Based on the MF Bunko J publication illustrated by Umibouzu, the series follows Kimihiko Kimizuka, a magnet for trouble who once served as the assistant to the legendary detective Siesta. Following Siesta's tragic demise, Kimihiko attempted to return to a normal student life until a mysterious client pulled him back into the world of international intrigue. Season 2 delves deeper into the fallout of the master sleuth's death, uncovering mistakes made by the seemingly infallible detective and the true weight of carrying on her legacy.
Production on the sequel continues under the direction of Manabu Kurihara, with animation handled by studio ENGI. The core voice cast reprises their respective roles, featuring Shin Nagai as Kimihiko Kimizuka and Saki Miyashita as Siesta, alongside Ayana Taketatsu as Nagi Natsunagi, Kanon Takao as Yui Saikawa, and Saho Shirasu as Charlotte Arisaka Anderson.
The opening episode, titled "To Meet You Once Again," follows Kimihiko, Nagi, Yui, and Charlotte as they are abruptly abducted on their way to visit Siesta's grave. Awakened in an unfamiliar confinement, the group is forced to watch a video recording documenting Siesta's own death—only for Nagi to notice a chilling inconsistency.
To add to the confusion, the supposedly deceased Siesta suddenly appears before them clad in a maid outfit. The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 is scheduled to begin broadcasting on October 7, 2026, across Tokyo MX, BS NTV, and AT-X, with streaming via d Anime Store.
