JH’s acclaimed webtoon series The Boxer is officially making the leap to television with a newly announced anime adaptation. The project was unveiled during the Crunchyroll Showcase at New York Comic Con 2026, accompanied by a special announcement trailer, main cast details, and production staff rosters.
Star-Studded Voice Cast
The adaptation has secured an exceptional lineup of voice talent to bring the high-stakes boxing drama to life. Koki Uchiyama will step into the ring as the protagonist Yu, a fighter whose frightening natural instincts allow him to conquer the sport with terrifying speed. He will be joined by Kensho Ono as Ryu, a prodigy who serves as Yu’s introductory hurdle.
Rounding out the core cast, veteran voice actor Tomokazu Seki will voice the legendary trainer K, the mastermind who recognizes Yu’s unfathomable potential in a desolate back alley, while Toshiyuki Toyonaga voices J, a retired legend of the sport.
Production Pedigree
Behind the scenes, the series is being helmed by directors Yudai Kubota and KANG Wonyeong. Masahiro Suwa is adapting the character designs, while seasoned scriptwriter Toshiya Ono is overseeing series composition. Animation duties are split between breccia—a fresh studio established by Kinema Citrus co-founder Muneki Ogasawara—and South Korea’s STUDIO JEMI.
Global Phenomenon
Originally serialized on NAVER WEBTOON in 2019 and subsequently on LINE Manga from 2020 to 2022, The Boxer has amassed over 1.06 billion cumulative views worldwide. The narrative follows K, a trainer searching for his final disciple, as he encounters Yu—a boy taking endless beatings in an alley without a hint of anger, yet possessing a monstrous gift.
A talent bestowed upon a monster. Is it a blessing—or a curse?
Crunchyroll
This adaptation is part of a newly formed strategic alliance between HAYATE, LINE Digital Frontier, and Crunchyroll, aimed at bringing approximately 15 webtoon titles to the screen.
