Crunchyroll has officially announced the acquisition of North American and international theatrical rights—excluding Asian territories while including India—for The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady's Treasure (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bōhi no Hihō). The upcoming feature-length production continues the massive narrative momentum of the acclaimed historical mystery franchise based on the light novel series by author Hyuganatsu and illustrator Touko Shino. Partnering with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the platform plans to unveil the official theatrical release window at a future date, following the film's scheduled December 11 premiere in Japanese cinemas.
An Original Imperial Mystery
Setting itself apart from direct light novel adaptations, the upcoming motion picture features an entirely original narrative penned directly by series creator Hyuganatsu. The plot reunites quick-witted protagonist Maomao and the perceptive eunuch Jinshi as they journey to the remote hometown of a consort who passed away five years prior within the sprawling imperial harem. Tasked with returning her remains to her homeland, the duo encounters dangerous pirates, hidden imperial secrets, and an enigmatic young boy whose identity anchors the core mystery.
The cinematic expansion arrives alongside the broadcast of the property's ongoing third television season, which launched its first quarter in October on Nippon TV's programming blocks. With Crunchyroll handling global streaming for both the serialized television projects and upcoming theatrical releases, fans of court intrigue and medicinal deduction continue to enjoy an unprecedented steady stream of high-profile animated content.
