The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has officially announced the nominees for the 2026 International Emmy Awards, bringing major recognition to the anime industry on a global scale. Among this year's contenders, the Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 anthology anime secured a nomination in the highly competitive Short-Form Series category, while the stop-motion creation My Melody & Kuromi picked up a nod in the Kids: Animation category.
The eight-episode anthology adapting Tatsuki Fujimoto's early short manga collections—licensed in English by Viz Media—has enjoyed a stellar festival and streaming run since its premiere on Prime Video. Split into two distinct four-episode blocks, the series showcases the provocative, eclectic storytelling that established Fujimoto's creative voice before his breakout success with Chainsaw Man. Standout stories ranging from Sasaki Stopped a Bullet to Nayuta of the Prophecy have resonated strongly with international critics and audiences alike.
Mariland's Stop-Motion Triumph
Sharing the spotlight is My Melody & Kuromi, a meticulously crafted stop-motion series produced by TORUKU and WIT STUDIO under the direction of Tomoki Misato (Pui Pui Molcar). Following its worldwide debut on Netflix, the series charmed viewers with its unique aesthetic, narrative wit, and a memorable theme song performed by LE SSERAFIM and produced by Gen Hoshino. This Emmy nomination adds to an already impressive accolades list, following its recent win for Best Animation at Singapore's 2025 Asian Academy Creative Awards.
Winners across all categories will be officially announced during the awards ceremony in New York City on November 23.
