Animation studio Cypic (formerly CygamesPictures) has shared a seasonal summer illustration celebrating Mokumokuren's acclaimed series The Summer Hikaru Died (Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu). The artwork depicts protagonists Hikaru and Yoshiki enjoying a quiet afternoon fishing together, offering a strikingly peaceful moment for characters central to a horror-mystery narrative.
Production and Reception
Co-produced by CyberAgent and KADOKAWA, the television anime adaptation debuted in July 2025 and quickly reached top spots on both Netflix Japan and ABEMA streaming charts. Production for Season 2 was confirmed following the conclusion of the first season.
Mokumokuren's original manga launched on Kadokawa's Young Ace Up digital platform in August 2021. The series has earned critical acclaim, including the top ranking in Takarajimasha's 2023 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guide for male readers alongside a nomination for the 16th Manga Taisho award.
