In a historic moment for classic manga enthusiasts, Chie Shinohara's seminal shojo masterpiece Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori (known internationally as Red River or Anatolia Story) is officially receiving a television anime adaptation. The revelation comes accompanied by an official teaser visual from the newly established anime production committee.
A Shojo Classic Reimagined
Originally serialized in Shogakukan's Betsucomi magazine from 1995 to 2002, Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori stands as one of the most celebrated historical fantasy epics in manga history, having earned the prestigious 46th Shogakukan Manga Award in 2000. The narrative follows Yuri Suzuki, a contemporary Japanese high school student who is magically dragged through a puddle into the ancient Hittite Empire in Anatolia, where she becomes embroiled in political intrigue, military conflict, and a grand romance with Prince Kail Mursili.
While dynamic voice drama CDs were produced during the manga's original run, this project marks the very first time Shinohara's expansive Bronze Age romance will be fully animated for television. Further details regarding the animation studio, main cast, directing staff, and official broadcast timetable will be disclosed in upcoming updates.
