Tsukasa Monma and Tsurushima's gritty historical crime thriller manga Manshu Opium Squad (Manshū Ahen Sukuwaddo) is officially making the leap to animation. The adaptation was announced alongside the series' highly anticipated return to the pages of Kōdansha's Weekly Young Magazine, thrilling fans of the high-stakes narrative.
Set against the turbulent backdrop of 1937 Manchuria, the story follows Isamu Hinata, a former Kwantung Army soldier who lost his right eye in combat. Desperate to secure medicine for his ailing mother, Isamu crosses a moral Rubicon by entering the illicit world of opium production, setting off a chain reaction that threatens to consume both him and the region's geopolitical fate. The original manga boasts over 3.5 million copies in circulation, establishing itself as a standout title in modern seinen storytelling.
