During the livestreamed Lollipop Chainsaw New Project presentation at the Tokyo Game Show, producers announced that the cult-classic zombie action franchise is receiving a live-action Hollywood film adaptation. Ambitious Entertainment producer Kirk Shaw and ZDF Studios former vice president of drama Robert Franke are spearheading the production, with international audiences in mind.
Nada Holdings founder Joe Teng clarified that this live-action cinematic venture remains completely separate from previously discussed anime plans for the IP. Additional production firepower includes Throne Inc. managing director Takafumi Yūki and Non Stop TV president Patricio Rabuffetti, bringing a broad cross-continental team to the project.
New Sequel and Franchise Expansion
Alongside the film announcement, Nada Holdings and Dragami Games revealed that Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back is slated for a 2027 release on the PlayStation 5. Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata is directing through his JP Universe studio, joined by original writer Masahiro Yuki and character designer NekoshowguN.
Originally launched in 2012 by Grasshopper Manufacture under the creative partnership of Gōichi Suda and filmmaker James Gunn, the franchise has seen a major revitalization effort following Dragami Games' acquisition of the intellectual property. Fans can also look forward to ongoing multimedia projects as the iconic cheerleader zombie-hunter returns to both the silver screen and next-generation consoles.
